Van Praagh, the creator of the CBS TV show "The Ghost Whisperer," described as a medium by the theater, was speaking at the Warner Theatre in Torrington Saturday night when a fight broke out in the audience, The Hartford Courant reported.

Two women from Waterbury, Shelby Tartaglia and Sheila Zimmerman, were arrested and charged with breach of peace after an argument escalated into a fight and police were called in, police Lt. Bruce Whiteley told the Courant Sunday. Both were released on non-surety bonds.

Joy Snow of Avon, who attended the show, said two groups in the audience were swearing at each other and began fighting. Snow said Van Praagh stopped the show and "literally ran off stage."

"We were embarrassed, the poor guy. This is going to be his taste of what Connecticut's like," she said.

A representative of the theater could not be reached immediately.
