Future 'Apprentice' star Martha Stewart attends shareholder meeting
UPI News Service, 05/11/2005
Martha Stewart got warm applause at her New York company's first annual meeting since her release from prison in March.
Stewart, 63, looked trim in a taupe pantsuit and blue blouse as she addressed shareholders of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. at Tuesday's meeting in Manhattan, The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday. There was no sign of the ankle monitoring device Stewart was ordered to wear as a condition of her release from federal prison, where she served five months for lying to regulators about a 2001 stock sale.
Stewart was criticized last month for attending a Time magazine publicity event, because she is not supposed to spend more than 48 hours a week away from her home in Bedford, N.Y. -- and she is only to leave home for such necessary activities as work, grocery shopping and doctor visits. Stewart joked about that as she described for shareholders the workload involved in putting together her two upcoming TV shows.
"That proves 48 hours is way too short a workweek," she said.
Stewart thanked shareholders for their support "during our personal difficulties" and cookies were served, the paper said.
