Jim Hanley's Universe in Manhattan said special guests for the Saturday event include "Amazing Spider-Man" writer Dan Slott, while visitors to Manhattan Comics & More can meet "DMZ" creator Brian Wood, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
Visitors to all New York comic book stores will have access to free specially-printed issues of 37 different comics, including those starring 2011 summer movie subjects Thor, Captain America and Green Lantern. A special edition Green Lantern HeroClix miniature will also be available at many locations.
Free Comic Book Day began in 2002 as an industry-wide promotion to draw customers into comic book shops and has since grown into an annual event. More than 2.7 million free comics are expected to be distributed Saturday, a posting on the event's official Web site, freecomicbookday.com, said.
