Fox orders pilot for Jennifer Lopez's new 'Brethren' TV drama series

UPI News Service, 11/17/2006

Fox has given a commitment to a pilot episode of "Brethren," a drama from Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions, reported in Hollywood.

The show is reportedly based loosely on the life of Isaac Guillen, a former gang member who becomes a defense attorney despite his multiple-felony past. Colleagues think Guillen is corrupt while clients think he's corruptible, the company said in a press release.

Lopez and fellow Nuyorican principal Simon Fields will executive produce "Brethren." Guillen will serve as consultant.

Alfonso Moreno ("The Practice") will write and executive produce, reported

"I really love the inherent tension for our main character. He has to work to walk the straight and narrow," Moreno said. "In his professional life, law enforcement is trying to trip him up and criminal forces are lurking to suck him in. His home life is equally tricky in that he has to be the ultimate 'Do what I say, not what I did' single parent."
