Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher joins CBS Sports

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher has been hired as a studio analyst for CBS Sports.

He announced his retirement as Steelers coach Jan. 5 after 15 years, saying he had lived a dream to lead his hometown team to a Super Bowl victory and that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

"I can still be part of it but not have it consume your life," he said during a conference call late Thursday. "I'm planning on doing this for a couple of years."

He did not say if he planned to return to coaching.

"It's an opportunity to stay busy on Sundays and it may go beyond this year."

Cowher's primary job at CBS Sports will be as an analyst on the NFL Today Show, where he will work with James Brown, Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe and Boomer Esiason.
