UPI News Service, 10/15/2011

A Canadian man who sold the world's oldest hockey stick for nearly $1,000 three years ago said he now thinks he should receive more money.

George Ferneough, who sold the stick to Mark Presley of Berwick, Nova Scotia, for $987, said he thinks he should get more money now that Presley is planning to sell the item and experts said it could fetch up to $2 million, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

"I think I should get a little cut," he said Thursday.

Presley, who said he visited Charlie Moffatt, grandson of the stick's creator, before his death to learn the item's history, had tests performed on the maple stick to prove it was carved between 1835 and 1838, making it the oldest hockey stick in the world.

The Rutherford hockey stick, a stick carved around 1852, sold for $2.17 million on eBay in 2001.
