Former 19 Kids & Counting star Josiah Duggar has ended his courtship with Marjorie Jackson.

Duggar, 18, had entered the "courtship" -- a moral, older-fashioned, chaperoned process that prepares a couple for marriage and disallows physical activity -- with 17-year-old Jackson on April 6.

"Both Josiah and Marjorie have enjoyed getting to know each other and to build their friendship over the past months," the Duggar family and the Jackson family told People in a statement.

"We are so grateful that they each are seeking the Lord's will for their future. A few weeks ago Marjorie and Josiah agreed to end their courtship, keeping in step with what they believe the Lord's will is. Both are thankful for the time getting to know each other, and their families continue to enjoy each other's company and close friendship."

Duggar told People in April things had been "going very well." He met Jackson while taking Spanish lessons from her mother at their house.

Jackson apparently also caught Duggar's eye during a December 2014 mission trip to El Salvador.

The reason why Duggar and Jackson didn't work out remains unknown.

TLC officially canceled 19 Kids & Counting in mid-July. The reality show ran for nine seasons, 227 episodes and many one-off specials. It was an extremely popular series for TLC, but Josh Duggar's molestation scandal rocked the nation and disturbed countless viewers.

As documented in a 2006 police report, Josh had forcibly fondled six girls -- two of whom were his own sisters Jessa Seewald and Jill Dillard -- about 12 years ago when he was 14-years-old. Josh is now 27-years-old.
