The singers, organized by the Memphis Symphony Chorus with help from the sixth- through ninth-graders of the Collegiate School of Memphis choir and others recruited through Facebook, broke into song with "Carol of the Bells" and "Jingle Bells" at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported Monday.
The performers in the flash mob -- defined by Merriam-Webster as "a group of people summoned to a designated location at a specified time to perform an indicated action before dispersing" -- finished their songs and scattered after announcing, "SHHHHHHH! This is a library!"
Organizer Mary Seratt estimated about 80 singers participated in the Christmas sing-along.
