The non-online dating services in South Florida might include an individual's religious leader, the Miami Herald reported Saturday.
"One of the reasons a lot of people are not married is that they have not found themselves. Therefore they don't know what they're looking for, they're always changing their minds. ... I tell the men to take notes after they go out with a girl, to see what they find out about them," said Rabbi Chay Amar of the Chabad of Golden Beach.
Shafayat Mohamed, imam of Pembroke Pines'Darul Uloom Mosque, gets requests from single Muslims seeking suitable mates. He has them approach "the aunties," the traditional matchmaker in many traditional Islamic families.
"The family, the aunt, the uncle, they become the guardian of women and men looking to get married. If you have a trusted and mature relative and they make a recommendation, half of the work is done. It cuts out the 99 yards of looking for someone online. It cuts the mistrust, because you know it's someone who came recommended. Now all that's left is to figure out if you like the boy or girl," Mohamed said.
Boca Raton matchmaker Carol Morgan has a niche market of seniors, many widowed or divorced.
``I have clients who are in their 70s and 80s who, as long as they're breathing and are healthy and well, they still want love,'' Morgan said.
"Valentine's [Day] is actually a great opportunity to meet other singles. They're definitely single. If they weren't, they wouldn't be out on Valentine's," Patti Stanger, star of Bravo, a reality show, said.
