The hit U.S. animated TV show "Family Guy" will start its new season in September with a "Star Wars" tribute.

The hour-long episode of the Fox program will retell part of the "Star Wars" saga using "Family Guy" characters, Daily Variety reported Saturday.

The cartoon portrayal got the OK from Lucasfilm and will depict the show's characters re-enacting key scenes and narratives from "Star Wars: A New Hope." 20th Century Fox execs said "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane is a major "Star Wars" fan and personally helped get Lucasfilm to approve the episode.

The storyline will revolve around the Griffin family being stuck at home during a blackout, and the father, Peter, deciding to tell a story leading to a "Star Wars" flashback.

MacFarlane also will show footage from the episode at a "Star Wars" mega-convention in Los Angeles.

The show also has its 100th episode coming up next season, with a two-part special in November.
