UPI News Service, 02/02/2012

The Federal Aviation Administration said a ball of fire reported in the sky over Texas was most likely a meteor.

The FAA said it received reports ranging from Houston to Oklahoma about the fireball in the sky Wednesday evening, The Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Thursday.

"Given that it was seen by a large number of people across so many miles makes it likely it was a meteor or a piece of space junk, but most likely a meteor," FAA Southwest region spokeswoman Lynn Lunsford said.

Authorities in Texas said they have not received any reports of damage from the falling object.
