An Iowa man said the worm doctors found living inside his eye earned him a segment on cable network Animal Planet's show "Monsters Inside Me."

John Matthews of Cedar Rapids said multiple vision specialists were stumped by the two spots that began obscuring his vision last December and the ophthalmology department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics eventually found a worm in his eye, the Dubuque Telegraph Herald reported Tuesday.
Matthews said it took two rounds of laser treatments to kill the worm.
"I could see it from behind, moving, trying to dodge the laser," he said.
Doctors told Matthews the worm probably came from one of two sources.
"It could have been hookworm I might have picked up when we were in Mexico or it could have been raccoon roundworm that I could have gotten turkey hunting," he said.
Matthews, a fan of "Monsters Inside Me," said he called the producers of the show and relayed his story. The show sent a film crew to Iowa to film a segment on Matthews titled "Shape Shifters."
