A team of seven Vancouver chocolatiers has volunteered to repair a damaged 30-pound hollow ceremonial chocolate egg damaged on a flight from Italy.

The egg was a gift from the Italian Paralympic Committee to Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan when he attended the Paralympic Games in Turin. The 3-foot egg was made by one of the finest chocolate makers near Turin, and is decorated with inscriptions and the logo of the Italian Paralympic Committee.
Sullivan planned to donate the egg -- which includes a secret gift package inside -- to a local children's charity, but a flight attendant in Frankfurt, Germany, lost her grip while removing it from a storage compartment and poked a hole in it, the Vancouver Sun reported.
In a statement, Sullivan said Vancouver's Purdy's Chocolates "has graciously agreed to eat the cost of the repair."
