Despite widespread reports to the contrary, Eva Longoria's parents say the actress is not yet ready to become a desperate housewife in real life.

There have been reports of a wedding between the star of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and San Antonio Spurs player Tony Parker and at least one outlet trumpeted Parker had given the star a 4-carat diamond engagement ring.

But Longoria's parents told Thursday's San Antonio Express-News the couple is still in the dating stage.

"As far as being engaged goes, not yet," her father, Enrique, told his hometown newspaper. "She said she's not ready for marriage."

Longoria's parents said they like Parker -- and described him as shy, respectful and reserved.

On the downside of having a celebrity daughter dating and NBA star, the retired couple said when news broke, they were bombarded with requests for Spurs tickets.
