Tensions were running high among the cast and crew of the San Francisco production of "Lestat" on the eve of a visit by its composer, Elton John.

John is scheduled to get his first look Saturday night at the much-maligned Broadway-bound musical, the New York Post reported Friday.

Critics have panned the show for its reportedly bland music, cluttered script and disjointed direction, the Post said.

A source said Warner Bros. warned the creative team to make sweeping changes or the $12 million production may not make it to Broadway.

A show spokesman said John has been involved in the "Lestat" fixes, even though he has yet to see the show.

"He's been completely informed about everything," the spokesman said. "He's dedicated to the show, and he's willing to do whatever is necessary to make it better."

However, the Post noted, John once stormed out of "Aida" -- his Broadway collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice -- angry over the orchestration of one of his songs. That episode from the past is adding to the pressure of the "Lestat" crew as they prepare to meet their maker, the newspaper said.
