John said he loves everything about the "Italian way of life," as he banged out his hits Saturday night along the relic-lined Via dei Fori Imperiali boulevard, the BBC said.
"I love places that have an incredible history."
Simon and Garfunkel performed there last year and Paul McCartney appeared at the site in 2003.
"I love the Italian way of life, the people, the attitudes," said John who first performed in Italy in 1973.
