Dwayne Johnson talks more about running for U.S. President on 'The Tonight Show': "We'll see"

UPI News Service, 05/19/2017

Dwayne Johnson addressed the possibility on running for president Thursday on "The Tonight Show" following his now highly-publicized interview with GQ magazine.

"The story has blown up because it was so wonderfully written," Johnson said of the GQ piece to host Jimmy Fallon.

The interview was given by Johnson after The Washington Post suggested that the former WWE star could win an election based on his likability and ancestry.

Following the piece, a new survey from Public Policy Polling found that Johnson would beat President Donald Trump in a mock draft by gathering 42 percent of the vote to Trump's 37.

"The surge and the groundswell since then has really been amazing," he said, adding that he's "incredibly flattered" by the poll results. "I've really been blown away."

"You have to question why. I think it's because a lot of people want to see a different leadership-I'm sorry, a better leadership -- today. I think more poise, less noise. And, I also think that over the years I've become a guy that a lot of people kind of relate to."

"I get up early in the morning at a ridiculous hour and go to work and send time with the troops, take care of my family -- I love taking caring of people," the actor continued to Fallon as the crowd cheered. "I think that kind of thing really resonates with people, especially today."

"I've been blown away and I am very flattered by it. Three and a half years is a long ways away, so we'll see."

Johnson is the latest celebrity that has mentioned they would like to run for president following Oprah Winfrey and Kanye West.
