New York City paramedics say it could only have been luck that saved a severely intoxicated man after he collapsed onto the tracks of an oncoming subway train.

Jesse Jones, 44, apparently passed out and fell at the Chambers Street station Sunday evening. The motorman of the train saw him topple over between the tracks, and quickly jammed on the brakes. But it was too late, and the first car ran over Jones, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Rescuers feared the worst, but were amazed to find Jones unscathed.
"His vital signs were fine. There was no bleeding and no head trauma," an EMS official told the newspaper. "Sometimes luck has a lot to do with it."
Jones was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, and was still there Monday night.
