Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith will reprise their roles -- Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra and Gloria the Hippo -- in the 2008 sequel, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a news release.
"Madagascar" is DreamWorks' most successful original movie, having passed the $500 million mark at box offices worldwide.
Katzenberg said DreamWorks was also planning a direct-to-video release starring the penguins of "Madagascar" in 2009.
A short film featuring the scene stealing birds will be shown in theaters before "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," which comes out next month.
