Donald Trump Tuesday gave Miss USA Tara Conner a second chance amid allegations of drug and alcohol abuse.

Trump told a New York news conference he would not fire the repentant beauty queen, calling her "a good person."

Conner admitted she went drinking even though she is underage, and apologized for her behavior, blaming it on her small-town background. Trump noted many of the allegations made against her were false but, he said, she is likely an alcoholic and a drug-testing program would be instituted.

"Tara got caught up in the whirlwind of New York," Trump said, adding. "New York City is a fast place."
