To help promote New York City's Animal Haven's Adopt-a-Pet program the Times Square Alliance is sponsoring a Dog Day Masquerade.

Animal Haven is a New York City-based no-kill shelter that provides dogs with a refuge until they can be adopted.
David Billotti, Times Square Alliance's director of communications, says the pairing of the dog masquerade -- dogs dressed in costumes -- is perfect because, "Times Square is so full of characters anyway, it just seemed like a logical fit," reported the New York Daily News Saturday.
The costume categories include Broadway Bow-Wows -- depicting a famous Broadway persona such as Mama Rose of "Gypsy"; Historical Hounds -- such as a VJ Day sailor and nurse combo; and Current Canine Characters such as a dog dressed as a glitzy New Year's Eve reveler.
Every dog registered for the event will be allowed to appear on the stage in the middle of Times Square Sunday -- and walk down the mock runway in front of the judges.
