A New York man convicted of letting his pet Chihuahua die of starvation has been sentenced to 350 hours of scooping poop from the city's dog runs.

Louis Martinez, 23, was also placed on three years probation, barred from contact with dogs for three years and ordered to appear before Bronx Supreme Court Judge Megan Tallmer every two months, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
Martinez was charged with animal cruelty for leaving his little dog locked in his apartment for more than a week without food and water, the newspaper said.
