Devo members thinking about recording new album

UPI News Service, 08/18/2005

About 15 years after their last album, Devo -- the Akron, Ohio, punk pioneers best known for "Whip It" -- may be going back into the studio.

The band has hardly been out of the spotlight with its music cropping up in feature films and commercials and emulated to a point by the Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Interpol, Billboard.com reports.

Now, bassist Jerry Casale tells Billboard the time may be right to head back into the studio and record a new Devo album. There may be one sticking point, however.

Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh were the driving forces behind Devo's sound and Mothersbaugh is now an in-demand soundtrack producer. It was unclear whether Mothersbaugh would be inclined to set aside his new career to revisit the past.

For now, fans will have to settle for the Devo DVD, "Live 1980," which is coming out Aug. 30 via Music Video Distribution. The set was taped Aug. 17, 1980, at the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma, Calif.
