"Red" was named best play and "Memphis" best musical at the Tony Awards ceremony in New York.

"Memphis" also picked up the prizes Sunday night for best book of a musical, best original score written for the theater and best orchestrations.

"Red" cast member Eddie Redmayne took home the honor for best performance by a featured actor in a play and Michael Grandage the best director of a play award. The drama also garnered the trophies for best scenic design, sound design and lighting for a play.

"Fences" won the Tony for best revival of a play and its stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis won the awards for best performance by a leading actor and actress in a play.

"La Cage aux Folles" was declared best revival of a musical. Its star Douglas Hodge won the trophy for best performance by a leading actor in a musical and Terry Johnson best director of a musical.

The award for best performance by a leading actress in a musical went to Catherine Zeta-Jones for "A Little Night Music."

Scarlett Johansson won the award for best performance by a featured actress in a play for a "A View from the Bridge,""Million Dollar Quartet" star

Levi Kreis earned the prize for featured actor in a musical and Katie Finneran took home the title for featured actress in a musical for "Promises, Promises."

The awards were handed out during a show at Radio City Music Hall, which was broadcast on CBS. Actor Sean Hayes served as master of ceremonies.
