Dean Unglert embraces estranged father in new Instagram photo -- "Family is family"

By Elizabeth Kwiatkowski, 03/13/2018

Dean Unglert is apparently making progress in his relationship with his estranged father, who had appeared on Rachel Lindsay's season of The Bachelorette.

Dean took to Instagram on Monday to share an update on his dynamic with his father, a converted Kundalini yogi who goes by the name "Paramroop," which means "divinely beautiful."

"Sometimes the apple actually does fall far from the tree," Dean captioned the a photo of the pair smiling and standing side by side with their arms wrapped around each other. "But at the end of the day, family is family."

Dean and Paramroop posed together outside of Two Rivers Cafe in Basalt, Colorado.

Dean -- who attempted to find love on Bachelor in Paradise 4 last summer but successfully entered a romance with Lesley Murphy on The Bachelor Winter Games -- found fame when he competed on Season 13 of The Bachelorette in Spring 2017.

Rachel eliminated Dean from The Bachelorette after traveling to his hometown in Aspen, CO, and meeting his "unorthodox" family.

Dean's visit with his estranged father of two years at the time was difficult and emotional. He explained that his family, once strong and united, fell apart when he was 15 years old because his mother died from breast cancer.

"It was an interesting experience. It was very cathartic in its own sense," Dean, 26, told Mario Lopez's radio show of his hometown date last year. "I don't regret anything, and I think it was definitely a stepping stone in the right direction."

Dean had warned Rachel before bringing her home that it would be the first time his immediate family, including a couple of siblings, gathered under one roof in eight years.

Dean felt abandoned and emotionally neglected by his father after his mother's death, which prompted Paramroop to bark at his son that he still has "one f-cking foot stuck in the past."

In July 2017, Dean told Mario that he had not spoken to Paramroop since ABC cameras were welcomed into his home, but one month later, he shared with People that they were working on their relationship and both had some growing up to do.

Although Dean's hometown date enraged some fans because they thought the network shouldn't have aired such personal, heart-wrenching footage, Dean told Access Hollywood the episode "could've been a little bit worse."

Dean thought the show's editing actually spared his family's emotions from that reunion "quite a bit," and he was thankful for the show because it sparked a conversation within his clan that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise.
