Veteran comedian-director David Steinberg will star in a talk show on TV Land, Daily Variety reported Tuesday.

The paper said the cable channel has committed to six episodes of "One Night Only with David Steinberg," described as an informal show featuring the Emmy-winning Steinberg chatting with comedy veterans and newcomers who got their start on TV.
Sal Maniaci, a programming executive for Nick at Nite/TV Land, told Variety the series is part of a plan to bring more contemporary entertainers to the TV Land schedule. "We're not just honoring classic TV, we're celebrating everything TV," he said.
Maniaci said the idea for the series is based on similar discussions among comedians at the annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo. He said the show will resemble "Inside the Actors Studio," but with more emphasis on performance -- and could include entire sitcom casts at some point.
"David's show won't be educational or tutorial, it'll be light and conversational," Maniaci said.
Steinberg was an executive producer on "Designing Women" and has directed episodes of "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
