David Hernandez: 'American Idol' ouster was legit, not a "conspiracy"

Even David Hernandez isn't buying Elisabeth Hasselbeck's American Idol "conspiracy theory" that he was ousted because producers "blocked all of his phone calls of people voting for him" due to his previously undisclosed history as a male stripper.

"I don't like to speculate about that kind of stuff because I like to have faith in Idol.  They've given me this huge platform and I totally respect everything that they do on that show," Hernandez told Reality TV World on Thursday afternoon.  "I'd like to think America voted on me and it was legitimate."

Hernandez was ousted from Idol's seventh season after "over 29 million" home viewer votes were cast following Tuesday night's live performance episode broadcast -- slightly more than a week after it was first revealed he "steadily worked" for three years as a male stripper at Dick's Cabaret, where he appeared fully nude and performed lap dances for the establishment's "mostly male" patrons.

During Thursday morning's live The View broadcast on ABC, Hasselbeck speculated Idol producers conspired against Hernandez.

"I think he actually deserved the spot to be there and I feel like maybe they were just trying to get him off the show," she said.

While he doesn't agree with Hasselbeck, Hernandez does appreciate her support.

"I'd like to thank Elisabeth for feeling like I was eliminated a little prematurely," he said.

Regardless of if he did think there was some sort of conspiracy to get him off the show, Hernandez said there's nothing he can do about it now.

"If that was the case, it really doesn't matter anymore," he said.  "I'm off the show.  I'm not going back on, obviously."
