Danish HOA mandates neighborly greetings

UPI News Service, 10/15/2008

A homeowner's association in Denmark says its new rule requiring neighbors to say hello to one another only applies to pedestrians.

Association Chairman Ole Jepsersen told The Copenhagen (Denmark) Post that it wouldn't be safe if drivers and folks on bicycles were busy waving to one another rather than keeping their eyes on the road.

The Post said Wednesday that the "hi, neighbor" policy will go into effect Nov. 1 in the Venstre Skol neighborhood in Viborg.

The idea is to bond the village-sized development of about 250 families with a greeting. A solid hello is preferable but a friendly nod is also acceptable, the rule states.
