Dandruff ad annoys Danish ministers

UPI News Service, 11/01/2005

Lutheran ministers in Denmark say an ad claiming a ministerial recommendation for dandruff shampoo is both inaccurate and tasteless.

The ad features a black-vested female minister calling Nizoral "the one true dandruff shampoo," the Copenhagen Post reported. Helle Christiansen of the Danish Association of Priests, said the manufacturer has admitted not asking any priests if they actually used Nizoral.

She also described the woman's vestments as wrong.

"The advertisement indicates that our priests have taken an active position regarding Nizoral shampoo, and that isn't the case," Christiansen said. "Therefore, the advertisement is misleading and laughable. Danish priests have such a big white collar that you'd never see their dandruff -- if they had it."

Jannsen-Cilag, the manufacturer, said that the campaign was created by a Swedish ad agency to run in Norway and Sweden as well as Denmark, which explains the Swedish-style vestments. The company said no complaints had been received from the other two countries, and the ad will continue to run as scheduled.
