A New York state couple have filed to trademark the phrase "Occupy Wall Street" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Robert and Diane Maresca paid $975 Oct. 18 to file for a trademark on the phrase, which has been used by a loose collective of protesters in New York and other U.S. cities, The Smoking Gun reported Tuesday.
Robert Maresca admitted the filing is "something of a gamble." However, he denied they are attempting to cash in on a movement that is down on corporations and unfettered capitalism.
"If I didn't buy it and use it someone else will," he said.
Maresca said he and his wife would mass-produce "Occupy Wall Street" goods, including bumper stickers, umbrellas, shirts and footwear.
