A New York state couple said they are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at their assisted living community.
John Rienzo, 93, and wife Louise, 94, said they are renewing their vows Wednesday at the Bristal Assisted Living Community in North Woodmere to celebrate the 70 years since their Jan. 25, 1941, wedding, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.
John Rienzo said part of his secret to long marriage is knowing when to say "yes, ma'am."
"We never go to bed angry. We always kiss and make up," he said.
The couple, who have two children, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, grew up in the same New York neighborhood and began dating as teenagers.
They said their original wedding reception was emceed by then-unknown comedian Jackie Gleason in the years before "The Honeymooners" made him a star.
"At that time, he was a nobody. He was just starting out," John Rienzo said.
