A Texas widow who dropped her diamond wedding ring in a store parking lot said the couple who found and returned the ring restored her "faith in mankind."

Mary Hornsby, 73, whose husband, Michael, died while training for the Vietnam War in 1965, said she searched the parking lot of the Costco store in Austin after the 1-carat diamond ring slipped off her finger Monday morning but saw no sign of it, the Austin American-Statesman reported Thursday.

Roberto and Lisette Castaneda said they found the ring while visiting Costco Monday afternoon to buy formula for their 4-month-old twin sons. They said they were unable to make out the worn inscription inside the ring but they left their information with Costco employees and soon received a phone call from Hornsby after she called the store to ask whether the ring had been spotted.

"I never thought I'd ever see it again," Hornsby said with the ring back on her finger. "It completely restored my faith in mankind."
