Country recording artist Mindy McCready told a Nashville court an ex-boyfriend beat her bloody then cried with apparent remorse.

She said she had expelled William Patrick McKnight from her house several weeks ago but found him inside when she returned home earlier this week, "Celebrity Justice" reported Friday.

"He beat me in the mouth and my mouth started bleeding all over the bed," she testified Thursday. "And my head was leaned back and he strangled me. When he choked me, the veins popped in my eyes and underneath my eyes and eyeballs."

He chased her down a staircase, caught her near the bottom and continued beating her face, she said. But then as she started spitting and choking on her own blood, McKnight turned Good Samaritan.

"He said 'I can't believe I did this,' and started crying and threatened suicide.

"I said 'I think I'm really hurt,' and he said he was going to kill himself, and he left."

McCready, gained fame in 1996 with her hit song "Ten Thousand Angels."
