Council settles with bullying victim

UPI News Service, 02/20/2006

It took more than 12 years, but a 23-year-old woman in Wales has finally got a $35,000 settlement for the bullying she said she had endured at her school.

Sophie Amor filed her lawsuit against the Torfaen Council more than 12 years ago, claiming she had to put up with bullying from the age of 4 until she was 11 at her primary school which she said had destroyed her life. The council agreed to the settlement but denied any liability, reports the BBC.

Amor, an art graduate, said she was bullied, taunted about her weight, spat at and subjected to violence, the report said.

"An average day would be suffering panic attacks and palpitations in the neck. I think I just shut off in the end," she said.

"I wouldn't call what I have a life -- I just exist," she added.

Every school in Torfaen has a robust anti-bullying policy, said a council official.
