Corey Cott is taking over the role of Jack Kelly from outgoing "Newsies" star Jeremy Jordan, producers of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical said Tuesday.

Cott will begin playing Jack Sept. 5. He became the alternate for the role earlier this month and will continue as alternate until he assumes the role full time.

"Newsies" marks his Broadway debut. He recently graduated Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama.

Jordan created the role of Jack in the show's world premiere production at Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey.

He earned Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for his Broadway performance. He is leaving the show to work full time on NBC's "Smash."
