Comedy Central's 'Colbert Report' to welcome back U.S. troops on air

"The Colbert Report" plans to welcome U.S. troops back home and celebrate their service in two military-themed episodes next month, Comedy Central said.

"Been There: Won That: The Returnification of the American-Do Troopscape" is to air Sept. 8-9.

The audience on both nights will be comprised of veterans and active duty service men and women in the studio, as well as by satellite audiences from Walter Reed Hospital, Iraq and Afghanistan, the network said.

On Sept. 8, guests will include U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and Gen. Ray Odierno, commanding general the U.S. Forces in Iraq. The following night, guests will include Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., sponsor of the Veterans Education Assistance Program, known as the new GI bill.

"The Iraq War is over and all Americans should thank the returning troops. And quickly, before they get sent to Afghanistan," Colbert said in a statement Friday.
