Colorado snow bound for Connecticut

UPI News Service, 01/10/2007

A stubborn Connecticut firefighter whose promise of snow for Christmas didn't happen has purchased three snowballs from Colorado on eBay for his daughter.

Chris Hansen of Milford, Conn., felt badly warm weather gave his daughter a green Christmas but brightened when he spotted an auction listing for snow from Loveland, Colo., The Coloradoan reported Wednesday.

It had been posted as a Christmas Day joke by Mary Walker, whose home in Loveland, in northeast Colorado has been blanketed by three heavy winter storms.

At first, Walker didn't want to accept Hansen's money, as she said the auction had been essentially a joke and a way to pass time. However, Hansen was adamant and he paid $200 for three Colorado snowballs.

The 2,000-mile FedEx trip involved a Ziploc bag, dry ice and a special container and was worth it to Hansen, who told the newspaper in a phone interview it was plain and simple fun.

"The world is so caught up in being busy and not taking time to laugh," he said. "This is one of those things that people will just get a chuckle out of."
