An Illinois atheist claims the state's approval of a bill for "In God We Trust" license plates is biased.

Buffalo Grove, Ill., resident, Rob Sherman, said that if the state offers "In God We Trust" plates, it should also offer "God is Make-Believe" plates, the State Journal-Register, a Springfield, Ill., newspaper, reported Monday.

The state House of Representatives bill for the plates was passed last week in a 105-3 vote.

Sherman said he refused to put a plate referencing God on his vehicle "but if some Christian wants it on their car, that's fine."

The bill reportedly would allow drivers to purchase the distinct plates for a $20 fee, a portion of which would be contributed to the Illinois Military Relief Fund for armed forces members.

"You don't want the plates, you don't need to buy them. It's a potential source of revenue for military families and indicates a wonderful message. I would anticipate there would be broad-based support (in the Senate)," state Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion, told the newspaper.
