Officials said David John Dombrowski, who retired in 2002 and died May 30 at the age of 63, drafted his last will and testament to leave all of his possessions, including his home, to the Department of Public Works, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday.

"It was a very thoughtful thing to do, a very nice thing to do, and a very unusual thing to do," City Attorney Grant Langley said.

Lawyer Paul Nowakowski was hired by Dombrowski to prepare the will.

"He didn't really say why, other than the fact that he had a lot of friends in the DPW and enjoyed his time working there. That's pretty much it. He was really kind of a close-lipped individual," Nowakowski said.

Officials said they are working to assess the value of the estate.
