Charges were dropped against the mother of the teenage suspect in the Lafayette, Calif., death of Pamela Vitale, wife of TV legal analyst Daniel Horowitz.

A deal was cut for Esther Marie Fielding, 53, to testify against her son, Scott Dyleski, Friday -- one day after her arrest as an alleged accessory after the fact to murder, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

Fielding's attorney would not comment on the deal, citing a temporary gag order imposed by Superior Court Judge David Flinn.

Court documents revealed prosecutors began a grand jury investigation Tuesday.

Horowitz, a noted Oakland, Calif., defense attorney and frequent TV commentator, found his wife bludgeoned and stabbed to death at their Lafayette home Oct. 15.

Dyleski, a neighbor, turns 17 on Sunday and will face trial as an adult. He remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

Flinn is expected to announce Nov. 10 whether the gag order will be permanent.
