A cat spent days stuck in an oak tree in Michigan before figuring out how to climb down.

Pam and John Cameron of Texas Township say the cat spent at least 10 days aloft, the Kalamazoo Gazette reported. Toward the end of its stay, the animal became something of a national celebrity.

The cat turned out to be a pet of a neighboring family. Louann Bierlein-Palmer said she had more or less given up hope that the cat, named Somerset, would return, but her son, Kyle, 10, continued to pray for him.

"Kyle truly believes in prayer and every night it was just continued for the cat long after I had given up," Bierlein-Palmer said.

On Friday, she saw Somerset's photograph in the Gazette. A short time later, the cat was back home.

Bierlein-Palmer said the cat appeared to have survived the ordeal well.

"He's definitely thinner, but he was not on his last legs," she said.
