Canada's southernmost point has been lost to the weather, with more than 700 yards of Point Pelee disappearing into Lake Erie.

A series of winter storms and high water levels have erased a sandy spit that jutted 800 yards into the lake to a latitude equal to that of northern California, the Globe and Mail reported Friday.
Dan Dufour, a spokesman for Point Pelee National Park said only 60 yards of sand remains.
"It hasn't been this short in the 20 years," Dufour said.
He said a no-swimming sign that used to mark the southernmost point washed up on a beach in Madison, Ohio, about 70 miles across Lake Erie.
The park, near Leamington, Ontario, attracts about 400,000 visitors a year.
