Cable customers complain of false charges

UPI News Service, 05/04/2006

A cable service provider has agreed to withdraw a $1,126 bill it had sent to a retired New York teacher for pay-per-view porn.

Claudia Lee, who lives in Yonkers just north of New York City, said she certainly did not watch pornography and gangsta rap videos -- and she lives by herself so no one else could have either. Cablevision has agreed with her.

The Journal-News of Westchester County reports a number of people have come forward with similar complaints since the newspaper first ran a story about Lee.

Charlotte Dillas, a retired police officer in Tarrytown, said she at first suspected her granddaughter but then decided the problem came from outside her household. Both Dillas and Lee had recently upgraded to high-speed cable when their troubles began.

Susan Francella told the newspaper that after she and her husband moved to Orange County they were billed $1,000 for Playboy Channel programs they had not ordered. In some cases, she said, the adult entertainment was ordered while they were on vacation.
