A Wisconsin shoe company says the red, white and blue wingtips it crafted for President George W. Bush are one of a kind.

Mark Birmingham, chief operating officer of Allen-Edwards in Port Washington, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the company has received a number of inquiries from retail stores and individual customers.
"We think that would take away from the gift that we gave to President Bush," he said. "As it said in the insole, they were made exclusively for President Bush, and we want to honor that."
The company decided to make the shoes when the president announced a visit July 11. While custom shoes usually take about a week to manufacture, the presidential pair were put together in a day with 130 people pitching in.
The company made a second pair as a backup, in case one was less than perfect -- but the second pair turned out to be unnecessary.
"It was a great source of excitement for everybody, a real morale booster and something everybody could rally behind, regardless of your politics," Birmingham said. "We make shoes for the left and the right. This was more about the office of the president."
