Jose Parada, 23, of Montebello was jailed on suspicion of burglary Saturday after he allegedly broke into three businesses along Whittier Boulevard in Pico Rivera, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. John Adams told the Whittier (Calif.) Daily News.
Parada was hiding in the attic of one of the buildings as deputies searched it, Adams said. "As (he) was moving around in the attic there, he actually fell through the ceiling."
Deputies first responded to a burglar alarm around 7 a.m. at William's Boots, sheriff's Sgt. Debbie Gallego said.
A deputy spotted someone inside nearby De La Cruz Jewelry, and authorities surrounded the site and called in a dog.
Besides the boot store and the jeweler, nearby Sanford's Antiques had also been broken into, Adams said.
Deputies heard a noise in the attic and ordered whoever was inside to come out. After they sprayed pepper spray into the attic, Parada fell through the ceiling.
