The Salt Lake City Deseret-News reported on the allegations, which were brought by Tony Mendes, himself a champion bull rider who makes a living on the rodeo circuit. Mendes said his neighbor, 24-year old Devin Murray, repeatedly shot his 4-year-old bull, Charley's Nephew, Sept. 15.
Although the bull survived the shooting, Uintah County Attorney JoAnn Stringham said the incident warrants the felony charge.
"It fit the elements of the crime -- intentionally damaging the property of another with a value in excess of $5,000," she said.
Mendes said the value of Charley's Nephew before the shooting was more than $25,000. The bull, who suffered three shots to the head and may lose an eye, is no longer fit for competition.
The feud reportedly started when the bull somehow got loose.
