A 24-year-old high school teacher in northern England is on trial for kissing a 15-year-old student in class on three occasions.

Shelley White, 24, was charged after admitting her deeds to a fellow teacher in the teachers' washroom last summer, The Times of London reported.

Prosecutor Richard Newbury told the jury in Leeds in Tuesday's opening day it was immaterial if the student went along with the kissing.

"This case is about a schoolteacher who, in the course of her employment, snogged -- that's her word -- a pupil three times in less than a week," Newbury said.

Music teacher Julie Bellas testified she was concerned that White had begun dressing more provocatively, wearing "night out" clothes such as low-cut tops and short skirts.

The student, who cannot be identified, was asked how he felt at the time.

"I wasn't bothered," he replied.

White has been suspended from teaching duties pending the outcome of the trial.
