A British village plans to erect a monument to its heritage featuring "bronze dung globules the size of large beach balls," Sky News reported Thursday.

Local retired woodworking teacher David Billings of Bassingbourn came up with the idea after the district council invited villages in the area to think of ways their heritage could be celebrated in public art works.

The $18,000 four-dung work will sit atop a 3-foot tall plinth in the village green, bearing testament to the work of 19th century coprolite miners, who dug up fossilized dung for use as fertilizer, the report said.

"I think it's an excellent idea," said Parish Council Chairman Jack White.

Other ideas were to feature a heron, which used to be common in the area, or a tribute to U.S. bombers that flew from the area in World War II.

"Villagers preferred this," White said.
