UPI News Service, 05/08/2005

Bob Geldof is denying reports he plans to stage another Live Aid concert to coincide with Britain hosting the July G8 summit of world leaders.

"It is kite flying, that's all it is. It is just talk," Geldof said at the Rose d'Or TV festival in Switzerland. "Why would I possibly repeat something I did 20 years ago?"

However, his spokeswoman said there are discussions taking place about holding shows to raise awareness concerning Africa to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original 1985 Live Aid concert. That was held at Wembley Stadium and raised about $100 million for drought-stricken Africa, the BBC reported Sunday.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair will host the other leaders of the G8 nations for the summit the first week of July in Scotland.

Geldof was behind the Band Aid 20 single, a reworking of the 1984 fundraising hit record, which raised about $28 million for charities in Africa last year.
