'Big Brother' reveals rules for new eviction nominations and "MVP" twists

By Elizabeth Kwiatkowski, 06/27/2013

Big Brother revealed the process in which three houseguests will be nominated each week for eviction and the powers the "Big Brother MVP" will have over the house during Wednesday night's premiere of the CBS reality show's fifteenth season.

CBS announced earlier this month Big Brother's new season will feature two new twists which will impact the houseguests' strategic game, as three houseguests will be nominated each week for eviction instead of two people and viewers will be able to cast their votes for the houseguest they believe is playing the best game each week.

The houseguest to receive the most home viewer votes will be declared a particular week's "Big Brother MVP" and the selected person will be given the opportunity to make that week's third nomination. The "BBMVP" will be informed of his or her status in private and will also make his or her nomination in secret without obligation to ever reveal his or her identity.

The nominated player by the "BBMVP" will be revealed prior to the Power of Veto competition each week. America began casting their votes on June 20 shortly after the 16 houseguests entered the house and began the three-month game.

"The 'Big Brother MVP' will force the houseguests to rethink their strategies. With America rewarding good game play, it doesn't pay to be a floater this summer," Big Brother executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan said in a joint statement.

Like previous seasons, the other two eviction nominees will be typically chosen by the winner of each Head of Household competition.

Last night's broadcast concluded with Big Brother's fifteenth season crowning its first HoH. The initial Head of Household competition, dubbed "Popsicle Factory," required the 16 houseguests to each climb onto a giant popsicle which was hanging in the air and moving around in a circle. The last person hanging on would win.

McCrae Olson, a 23-year-old pizza delivery person from Zimmerman, MN who currently resides in Oak Grove, MN, ended up winning the challenge and therefore became the season's first HoH.
